Hasbro has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and Patent Department professional with 4+ years of experience to join our Patent Department in Rhode Island! This position is a key part of the legal team supporting Hasbro's patent function including patent clearance, due diligence and patent searching to support Hasbro's patent counsel. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle a broad range of matters with professionalism and discretion. Good interpersonal and organizational skills, a proactive "can do" attitude, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with sound judgment are paramount!
Effective from on January 4, 2027, this position will be onsite Tuesday – Thursday at Hasbro’s new HQ location in Boston, MA. In the interim, this position will be onsite Tuesday –Thursday at Hasbro’s HQ in Pawtucket, RI or at Hasbro’s temporary location in Boston, MA
What You'll Do:
Patent Related Responsibilities
- Weekly updating and maintenance of Patent Counsel clearance spreadsheet to ensure timely completion of due diligence in advance of product tool start. Review of submitted Patent Clearances to assess sufficiency and seek completion when additional information is needed from the engineering department.
- Develop understanding of brand products to assist Patent Counsel in preliminary clearance searching across range of patent tools and databases.
- Attend Bi-weekly inventor relations meetings and record new features and legal updates to support due diligence.
- Attend quarterly brand meetings and record clearance status to support due diligence.
- Downloading weekly issued Patents and Published Patent Applications and organization by Assignee.
- Interface with internal legal colleagues, Brand Teams, Engineering, and Outside Counsel as needed.
Administrative Functions
- Process, and track patent expenses against budget and manage year end accruals.
- Manage department invoice coding and tracking.
- Patent Counsel meeting scheduling.
- Patent Counsel bar administration tasks, (payment of memberships, continuing education reporting) travel arrangements, Bank of America purchasing card reconciliation and expense report reimbursement.
What You'll Bring:
- Strong understanding of patent related concepts.
- Strong familiarity with patent database management tool Anaqua including ability to search fields, upload documents, and build spreadsheets, and other tasks as needed.
- Extensive familiarity and ability to search United States Patent and Trademark Office website, Google Patents and Espacenet sites for patents and patent documents.
- Ability to use Claude for prior art searching to help process clearances.
- Strong attention to detail and timelines required.
- Proficient in Excel, Powerpoint and Word tools.
- Excellent judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Internally motivated and ability to see and solve problems, and ask questions without prompting.
- Ability to manage a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment, with curiosity and flexibility to learn new technologies and contribute to team knowledge-sharing.
Nice to Have:
- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree from accredited college or equivalent work experience.
- Relevant Law Firm or In-house corporate experience.
- Experience interfacing with internal Engineering and Legal teams.
