2026 Summer Software Engineering Intern

Skeleton Key is a game development studio and division of Wizards of the Coast. We are a group of industry veterans who are guided by the belief that empowering our teams and providing the necessary time, tools, and support we can foster a creative culture where everyone can do their best work.

Our studio is located in Austin, TX, and we are looking for a motivated and passionate Software Engineering Intern to join us. This internship is expected to run for [Summer 2026 | 10 weeks] and will be based out of Austin, TX focused on supporting Gameplay & Tool development in Unreal Engine.

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will contribute directly to production-quality gameplay systems, engine code, and internal development tools. This role provides hands-on experience working within Unreal Engine on a large-scale AAA project, collaborating closely with designers, artists, and engineers in a professional production environment.

Throughout the summer, you’ll contribute to work that matters while also being part of a broader global intern cohort, gaining exposure to professional development sessions, networking opportunities, and leadership engagement designed to support your growth and learning.

 

What You Will do as a Softare Engineer Intern:

  • Implement and iterate on gameplay features using C++ within Unreal Engine.
  • Contribute to engine-level systems, performance improvements, and core architecture tasks under mentorship.
  • Build and enhance internal tools and editor workflows that support cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate with design, art, and engineering partners to bring gameplay features from concept to implementation.
  • Debug, profile, and optimize runtime systems to improve performance and stability.
  • Participate in code reviews, team discussions, and production processes as part of the engineering team

 

What You Will Bring (Required qaulifications/skills/competencies):

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong C++ programming skills and solid computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, systems concepts).
  • Experience with Unreal Engine through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
  • Passion for building polished, high-performance interactive experiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn in a collaborative development environment.

 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with Unreal Engine’s Gameplay Framework or engine internals.
  • Tools or pipeline development experience.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Perforce or Git.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools) in a structured workflow.

By the end of the program, interns leave with tangible accomplishments, a clear understanding of how their work creates value, and meaningful exposure to what a full-time, entry-level role at Hasbro could look like, positioning them well for potential future opportunities.

 

Program Details

  • Interview Timeline: February – April
  • Summer Internship Program Dates (adjust accordingly for Co-op):
    • Start: Early June (target June 8)
    • End: Late August (target August 21)
  • Commitment: Full-time (40 hours/week)
  • Compensation:
    • Rates vary based on year in school, degree program, and office location
    • Final rates communicated during offer process but will likely fall within the range of $50- $60/hr
  • Location: This opportunity will take place in our Skeleton Key office located in Austin, TX.

The hourly rate for this position is $50.00 to $60.00. The hiring range will vary based on factors such as experience, skills, location and market conditions. Additionally, employees may be eligible for annual and long-term incentives as part of their overall compensation package.
