Main Purpose of Role:

The Senior Category Manager is responsible for the Business Development of Brand & Category Strategic plans. The role will include responsibility for the delivery of Hasbro’s financial targets (sales, profitability & growth). Additionally, this leader will hold full category profit & loss responsibilities; including budgeting and quarterly forecasting. The successful candidate will possess detailed execution of plans via competitive knowledge, positive relationships and best in class product execution. We are looking for someone with outstanding stakeholder management skills. This role will require leadership and line management of the Category segment within the brand teams that will reach across a host of Hasbro’s brand portfolio. Finally, this team member will lead the negotiation of contracts and act as an ambassador of relationships within that licensee base.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:

 

Business Development:

  • Develop rolling 3-year strategic plans for Categories led, informed by consumer insight, industry trends, retail intel, competitive landscape, and technology innovations.
  • Identify best in class partners (to include current and new partners) to support each strategy.
  • Identify white space/category gaps by regular gap analysis and market knowledge.
  • Assess and qualify initial opportunities, prospect leads, develop sales materials and presentations, and solicit and secure business proposals from the candidates.
  • Work with partners to build and implement strong go-to-market plans leading the end-to-end process from product creation to the launch to market.
  • Showcase analytical capabilities within daily management of revenue, category, licensees and contract negotiations.
  • Accountable for the P&L demonstrating a thorough commercial and sales acumen through both account management and new sales/lead generation.
  • Build Joint Business plans with VIP Strategic Licensees for an accountability and action oriented mind set.
  • Quarterly review the JBP’s to course correct and ensure business growth.

Deal Negotiation and Financial management:

  • Lead annual budget planning and quarterly forecasting process.
  • Achieve all financial budgets.
  • Effectively manage all costs.
  • Effectively and consistently manage all cash collection.
  • Lead quarterly financial reviews with key licensees to ensure targets are met.
  • Own the P&L for the identified categories, rolling up to the total Market Budget.
  • Lead various levels of contractual negotiations from initial deal negotiation thru contract execution (including legal, creative & brand guidelines).
  • Develop both conventional and unconventional business modelling scenarios to inform deal terms that serve both short-term & long-term growth objectives.
  • Build solution-based resolve within complex contract scenarios.
  • Coordinate negotiations, in conjunction with global counterparts, in extending deals global / multi-territory

Communication:

  • Constant communication with licensees to monitor, track and build the business is a must!
  • Build best in class relationships with all key stake holders internally and externally.
  • As the business lead collaborate and work with all key lines of business internally with GBT, Local Markets, Regional Teams, LBE. Design and development and regional legal and finance.
  • Work hand in hand with Retail team to support all Retail promotions and franchise health for 365 listings.
  • As the business lead, operate as the key liaison of information between the internal senior leadership team, Design & Development, Retail Development, Finance, and Legal teams.

Skills, Knowledge, Experience & Qualification requirements

  • Significant, progressive of experience in licensing (entertainment licensing experience highly regarded).
  • Complex contract negotiation skills paired with evidence of strong selling skills and shown sales results.
  • Commercial business development expertise with demonstrated experience in ownership of partners plans, budgets and forecasting.
  • Exceptional understanding of brand positioning, retail segmentation, competitive landscape.
  • Strong presentation skills with outstanding persuasive, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management, prioritization and planning capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate and be a leader cross-functionally and at all levels of management.
  • Ability to be flexible and readily shift priorities and operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical/Excel/PC skills.
