 A day in the life of a Material Handler:

 

The main function of the material handler (unionized position) is to prepare orders using a forklift or pallet truck. You will assist several departments, either receiving, distribution or production, in various tasks related to moving pallets.

 

Your responsibilities consist of:

  • Handling and manipulating merchandise to designated locations
  • Ensuring proper management of storage space, stacking pallets properly and keeping the receiving area clean at all times
  • Taking an active and ongoing role in the prevention of accidents related to operations, equipment and merchandise handling
  • Striving to eliminate hazards, reporting unsafe situations to management and making recommendations to correct problems, repairing orders, picking boxes, assembling pallets, applying stickers
  • Moving stock in the warehouse, unloading and loading trailers
  • Participating in inventory count (cycle count and annual inventory)
  • Lifting boxes (max 30 lbs)
  • Following and applying the customer requirements manual
  • Following the instructions of supervisors and team leaders
  • Respecting the work methods in place
  • Respecting safety measures
  • All other tasks required by management

 

 What you’ll bring:

  • High school diploma or a combination of education, training or experience
  • Experience and knowledge of receiving operations and equipment such as forklifts, hand trucks, and pallet trucks
  • Ability to operate an RF monitor
  • Possess a forklift operator's license
  • Have initiative and be autonomous
  • Enjoy working in a team
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
  • Capacity to lift loads up to 30lbs occasionally
  • Be available to work overtime
