Our North America Licensed Consumer Products team is in search of an ambitious and tenacious commercial leader to join the Softlines Team as a Senior Category Manager!


In this role, you would be accountable for delivering the merchandise budget for the Apparel Category. We are looking for a collaborative partner who will be responsible for the Business Development of Brand and Category strategic plans. This includes ownership for the delivery of Hasbro’s financial targets (sales, profitability and growth). Additionally, this lead will hold full category profit and loss responsibilities, including budgeting and quarterly forecasting for Apparel in North America.

A day in the life of a Sr Category Manager…

Business Development:

  • Develop prioritized brand growth strategies by setting a clear category vision for the portfolio.
  • Nurture licensing partnerships in line with brand strategies to improve revenue opportunities.
  • Identify key partnerships to ensure delivery to consumers through innovative product.
  • Partner with our wider Global Consumer Products organization to ensure on-strategy brand development specific to the category, specifically Action Adventure, Preschool Entertainment, & Fashion
  • Collaborate closely with our US Sales and Marketing team to ensure regional alignment on the marketing and retail development plans of the category.
  • Attend retail buying meetings and Hasbro Pitch presentations as the need arises.
  • Assess and qualify initial opportunities, prospect leads, develop sales materials and presentations, and solicit and secure business proposals from the candidates.
  • Negotiate and develop high value partner agreements—utilize an experienced commercial rigor.
  • Showcase analytical capabilities within daily management of revenue, category, licensees and contract negotiations.
  • Maintain category level P&L responsibility for partner contracts.
  • Work closely with regional Design & Development teams to drive optimum creative and product execution.
  • Build a unique point of difference for Hasbro among a competitive global landscape.

Deal Negotiation:

  • Lead various levels of contractual negotiations from initial deal through execution (including legal, creative & brand guidelines).
  • Develop both conventional and non-traditional business modeling scenarios to advise deal terms that serve both short-term & long-term growth objectives.
  • Build solution-based resolve within sophisticated contract scenarios.
  • Communication:
  • Constant communication with licensees to supervise, track and build the business is critical
  • As the business lead, operate as the key liaison of information between the internal senior leadership team, Design & Development, GCO, Retail Development, Finance, and Legal teams.

Leadership and Line Management

  • Leadership, including line management, mentoring, performance development and frequent feedback.
  • Own the creation and delivery of the team category strategy plan from ideation to implementation.


What you’ll bring…

  • Passion for Hasbro brands and the Licensing industry.
  • A college degree with at least 8 years’ experience in licensing (entertainment licensing experience highly preferred).
  • Proven contract negotiation skills paired with evidence of strong selling/sales results.
  • Comfort with commercial business development and ability to demonstrate experience in ownership of partners plans, budgets and forecasting.
  • Outstanding understanding of brand positioning, retail segmentation, competitive landscape.
  • Expert storytelling capabilities with ability to captivate through verbal and written opportunities.
  • Strong time management, prioritization and planning ability.
  • A willingness to embrace shifting priorities and operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
