Hasbro is seeking a Sr. Chemist, Product Innovation to join our Chemistry Lab. In this role, you will drive chemistry innovation with the product brand teams through the creation of new or modified compounds for toy, games and arts & crafts products for worldwide markets. This role conducts experimentation and provides early technical and feasibility guidance to product development teams about the chemical substances, properties and processes used to develop our global product. Under general direction from the Principal Scientist, the senior chemist partners with development engineers and designers, safety and reliability engineers, as well as external vendors, suppliers and trade associations to stay abreast of latest industry regulations, assess impact and supports new or modified formulations.
Primary Responsibilities/Duties:
- Conduct laboratory experimentation to develop new products or modifications to existing formulations.
- Conduct analytical and characterization work on a variety of compounds including but not limited to thermal, rheological and spectroscopic analysis.
- Partner with development teams to ideate and prioritize new concepts.
- Manage laboratory logistics, safety and administration as needed.
- Continuously update technical knowledge in field of plastics, paperboard, wood and arts & craft materials, and sustainability.
- Work closely with manager to plan and organize technical product development tasks assigned.
- Work with raw material suppliers to develop an advanced understanding of the materials and their applications to toy products.
Skills & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree: Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering
- 5-10 years’ experience in industry, with particular focus on product development support, regulatory knowledge, life cycle assessment and product safety (toy safety preferred); strong understanding of the toy and/or adjacent consumer industry.
- Supplier and vendor relationship experience is a plus.
- Good writing, communication, presentation and negotiation skills
- Strong team collaboration skills
- Domestic and International travel ability
- Ability to work in a diverse team environment
- Strong innovation skills and creative problem solver
- Fosters a sense of energy, ownership and personal commitment to work
- Responds resourcefully and constructively to new demands, priorities, and challenges or obstacles
- Experience in compounding (paints, coatings, cosmetics, toys, adhesives)
- Analytical Chemistry/materials characterization background
- Technical writing. Ability to understand and translate to non-technical staff
- Understanding of global, federal, and state product safety standards
- Knowledge of ASTM, ISO, and CEN processes
