Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. The Lead Environment Artist will support the Art Director in implementing and maintaining the artistic vision for the project environments. This role will focus on creating visually stunning and immersive game worlds while ensuring consistency with the overall artistic direction. This person will have strong skills in driving environments from concept to completion; along with a deep understanding of technical pipelines and familiarity with optimizing and implementing art assets for game engines.
What You'll Do:
- Collaborate closely with the Art Director to evangelize the artistic vision of the game.
- Drive the creation of art for our game environments and ensure that a unified vision is maintained, and that artists have clear benchmarks for asset production.
- Review artists’ work and give feedback to ensure the highest quality expectations are met, artistically and technically.
- Refine production processes to improve efficiency and maintain artistic excellence.
- Collaborate with game designers, programmers and other art team members in a creative spirit.
- Partner with production to plan work, define pipelines, and establish clear, scalable processes.
- Guide and mentor a team of environment artists, providing regular feedback and fostering their professional growth.
- Hire, lead, and mentor a group of environment artists to further their skills and cohesion as a team.
- Work to maintain morale and create an atmosphere of creativity and enthusiasm.
What You'll Bring:
- 6+ years of experience in game art production, with at least 2 years in a lead role
- Experience of working on a published AAA game from conception to release.
- Extensive knowledge of 3D art pipelines, game engines, and technical constraints.
- Strong understanding of environment art principles, including architecture, landscapes, set dressing, materials, and lighting.
- Experience with game engines, preferably Unreal Engine.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality environment art and artistic vision.
- Positive influence and leadership skills - Motivates and encourages others, fosters an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

The base salary range for this position is $145,000.00 to $227,200.00. The hiring range will vary based on factors such as experience, skills, and market conditions. Additionally, employees may be eligible for annual and long-term incentives as part of their overall compensation package.
