Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. As a Principal Environment Artist at Atomic Arcade you will be empowered to build stunning, project defining environments that help define the look and feel of our world. This role requires strong attention to detail, an eye for beautiful lighting and composition as well as extensive skills in crafting real-time assets, materials and shaders. You are collaborative and creative in your efforts to push tools, styles, and the execution of immersive, well-crafted environments.

 

 

What You'll Do:

  • Create stunning environments, in engine, establishing a standard of excellence for our project.
  • Help strategize and plan environment art in collaboration with the concept and design teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, technical art, and engineering, to ensure seamless integration of assets into the game engine while maintaining optimal performance.
  • Push the boundaries of visual quality by introducing innovative techniques, technologies, and workflows that enhance the realism, atmosphere, and emotional impact of game environments.
  • Work closely with the Art Director and creative leads to drive and champion our artistic vision to the team.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to bring innovative solutions to the creation of game environments.
  • Mentor your fellow artists, both internal and external; help to inspire and provide visual, technical, and experiential feedback.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience as a Senior or Principal Environment Artist, having shipped multiple PC/Console Titles
  • Creative initiative and vision to take an environment to completion from either a detailed or simple concept image.
  • Advanced understanding of current game art pipelines and methodologies
  • Outstanding eye for lighting, materials, color theory, detail, and visual hierarchy.
  • Highly skilled in relevant software, 3DS Max, Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush, Substance, Houdini, Unreal Engine, etc.
  • Enthusiastic, positive, team-oriented; must have the ability to interact and collaborate with all departments and teams

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • Starting Pay Range: $134,080.00
  • Pay Range End: $228,960.00
