The Digital Art Director is also responsible for guiding the aesthetic quality of the game from pre-production, through to final production. Works with the Project Manager and/or Producer to identify critical milestones and deliverables in relation to art needs as well as define art development workflow and process requirements.<br/><br/>KEY RELATIONSHIPS<br/><br/>This individual bridges the gap between the Magic Creative and Magic Digital teams, pulling inspiration and direction from Creative, and communicating out to the Magic Online Digital teams.<br/><br/>Internal Relationships:<br/><br/>- Art Directors (Peers)<br/>- Graphic Designers<br/>- Software Engineers<br/>- Game & Web Producers<br/>- Research & Development team<br/>- Brand Management team<br/>- Creative Services team<br/><br/>External Relationships:<br/><br/>- Vendors<br/>- Animators<br/>- Game Designers<br/><br/>Supervises:<br/><br/>- Does not supervise others.<br/><br/><b>JOB DUTIES</b><br/><br/><b>Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:</b><br/><br/>- Responsible for all design and art development for Magic Online.<br/>- Work closely with R&D in interpreting the game design into a visual experience.<br/>- Work closely with Business Partners and Project Managers.<br/>- Ensuring the aesthetic quality of the game throughout pre-production and during production.<br/>- Work with Producer of projects to develop high-level milestones and deliverables in relation to art needs.<br/>- Partnering with Producer and other team members on the game team to ensure art pipelines and resources are sound and deliverables are being met<br/>- Work with Producer, technical writer and others to assemble style guides and design documents for Magic: The Gathering Online<br/>- Manage creative team: 3D artist/animators, UI game designers & concept artists.<br/>- Manage outside vendor relationships in acquisition of art assets.<br/>- Present design concepts and final designs to key decision makers.<br/>- Work with brand/marketing to ensure products are consistent with brand objectives.<br/><br/><b>QUALIFICATIONS</b><br/><br/><b>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</b><br/><br/>- Experience leading visual development on digital game or entertainment experiences.<br/>- Able to work in a team environment, collaborating with other designers, developers, animators, writers and management.<br/>- Able to lead other creative staff and clearly direct creative work<br/>- Understand production flow of interactive and web projects, testing and quality assurance processes and work proactively throughout development with little supervision.<br/>- Strong Communication skills<br/>- Ability to work under continual deadline constraints<br/>- High Attention to detail<br/>- Strong creative design skill with an ability to recognize good design.<br/>- Proficiency with standard industry tools with the capacity to quickly learn new tools<br/><br/>Proficiency with most or all of the following:<br/><br/>- Maya or 3D Studio Max, ZBrush or Mudbox, Photoshop<br/>- Flash, HTML 5, After Effects<br/>- Expression Blend experience is a plus but not a requirement<br/>- Project management and revision control software<br/><br/>Basic to Advanced Knowledge of most or all of the following:<br/><br/>- EPUB or iOS application development process<br/>- 3D model creation, texturing and animating<br/>- Realtime shaders and effects<br/>- Traditional art skills<br/>- 2D animation<br/>- Video effects animation<br/>- Sound Production<br/>- Web and game friendly file formats (jpg, png, tga, swf)<br/>- Resource “weighting” for digital delivery (low file size/high quality)<br/>- Must be current on trends in social/casual/arcade/computer gaming<br/>- Understanding of UX / UI principles (creating and reading basic wireframes, multi-state elements and their creation, in game element usage – how the parts fit together)<br/><br/><b>Education and Training:</b><br/><br/>- 4 - 6 years of experience in Digital Art Direction<br/>- Bachelor of Fine Arts / Bachelor of Arts preferred, Master of Fine Arts / Master of Arts a plus.<br/><br/>Time Expected to Reach Full Performance Level in Position:<br/><br/>- 6 months<br/><br/>Physical Requirements:<br/><br/>- Office environment, able to work on computer or phone for long periods of time.<br/><br/>We are an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer<br/><br/>The above is intended to describe the general content of and the requirements for satisfactory performance in this position.
