At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That’s where you come in!

As a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer, you’ll lead the creation of a comprehensive view of players and Dungeon Masters across our ecosystem—spanning acquisition, play tools, site usage, and long-term engagement. You’ll turn complex, multi-source data into clear, trustworthy insights that guide product strategy, content, and community initiatives.

You’ll be the go-to partner for product, design, engineering, and marketing—defining canonical metrics and empowering every teammate to become an insights expert. You’ll champion data quality and an experimentation approach to help us deliver magical player experiences.

If you love translating ambiguous questions into crisp analysis, crafting elegant data models and dashboards, and telling compelling data stories that drive decisions—come help us level up the game.

This is a hybrid role located in Renton, WA requiring 3 days a week in office.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Ownership: Lead the end-to-end player/DM insight stack: define key questions, metrics, and analytical frameworks (cohorts, funnels, retention, LTV, segmentation).
  • Business Intelligence: Architect and build Tableau dashboards that combine multiple complex sources and enable intuitive drill-downs.
  • Data Modeling: Design BI data models and a clean semantic/metrics layer to ensure consistent, self-serve reporting.
  • Collaboration: Partner with central data teams to shape requirements, source-of-truth tables, and data quality checks.
  • Documentation: Instrument and validate product/event telemetry and document definitions in a data dictionary.
  • Strategic Insights: Lead descriptive and diagnostic analyses; translate findings into clear recommendations and present them to senior leadership.
  • Data Monitoring: Monitor dashboard usage and performance; iterate for clarity, speed, and adoption.
  • Data Experimentation: Collaborate on experiment design, guardrail metrics, and post-experiment reads.
  • Autonomy: Manage your own prioritized project list, with a clear understanding of overarching business goals.
  • Data Security: Uphold privacy, security, and governance standards in everything we build.

What You'll Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in analytics, data engineering, or a similar field.
  • Proficiency in Advanced SQL with hands-on experience building and optimizing data pipelines.
  • Experience programming to extract, transform, and clean large data sets.
  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau or similar tools.
  • Practical experience modeling data for BI and working with modern cloud warehouses, such as Snowflake.
  • Strong data storytelling and partner communication skills.

Nice to Have:

  • A solid understanding of, and appreciation for, Dungeons & Dragons.
  • Experience in consumer subscriptions, gaming, or content platforms and familiarity with player lifecycle analytics.
  • Knowledgeable about predictive modeling, Machine Learning, and A/B Testing methods.
  • Understanding of experimental design frameworks (e.g. design of experiments).
