We’re seeking a strategic and hands-on Senior Director of Engineering to lead engineering teams across multiple business-critical domains:

  • Fan-Facing Products: Web and mobile technologies that power the Magic: The Gathering player experience
  • Retail-Facing Tools: The Wizards Play Network (WPN) platform and other tools used by our retail partners
  • Internal Tools: Systems that enable game designers to create, manage, and distribute digital assets and content

 

As a senior leader, you will set the technical vision, build high-performing teams, and deliver best-in-class software products that delight fans, empower retail partners, and enhance game creation workflows. You'll lead the transformation of iconic games into world-class digital experiences and collaborate with passionate teams at the intersection of games, tech, and creativity

 

What You'll Do

Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and implement engineering strategy across three key domains: Fan, Retail, and Internal Tools
  • Partner closely with Product, UX, Game Design, Publishing, and Operations to align technology with business and creative goals
  • Drive a culture of excellence, agility, and innovation across cross-functional engineering teams
  • Manage and mentor engineering directors, managers, and leads across multiple product lines

Execution & Delivery

  • Ensure delivery of scalable, performant, and secure software platforms with a focus on user experience
  • Oversee execution of fan-facing platforms such as Magic.gg, companion apps, and account systems
  • Lead technology efforts behind WPN retail tools including event scheduling, reporting, and promotional workflows
  • Guide development of internal game content and asset management systems used by design and creative teams

Technology & Architecture

  • Champion modern software practices (DevOps, CI/CD, cloud-native development)
  • Set architectural direction across products to ensure technical cohesion and long-term maintainability
  • Oversee integration of web, mobile, and backend services with internal systems and external partners

Talent & Team Development

  • Scale teams through thoughtful hiring, coaching, and career development
  • Build a diverse, inclusive engineering culture where innovation thrives
  • Foster collaboration across multiple teams and geographical locations

 

What You’ll Bring

  • 12+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years in senior leadership roles
  • Proven track record of managing multiple engineering teams delivering user-facing and enterprise-grade products
  • Strong technical background in full-stack web/mobile development, backend services, cloud infrastructure, and APIs
  • Experience working in cross-functional environments with product, design, creative, and operations teams
  • Strategic problem solving and effective communication across both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Data-informed decision making with a continuous improvement attitude

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • Starting Pay Range: $194,300
  • Pay Range End: $291,400

 

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation range for this role. The range listed is just one component of Wizards of the Coast’s total compensation package for employees.
