The Core Services team creates customer-facing applications like Planeswalker Points, Wizards Event Reporter and Wizards Account Systems. We’re looking for a senior software developer to help put together our next big thing, while maintaining the existing apps we wrote that support our customers.

WHAT IS THIS ROLE ALL ABOUT?

As a Sr Software Developer on the Core Services development team, you must value high quality work, detail-oriented development, and team collaboration. We are looking for “smart and gets things done”. No spaghetti code or “it works on my box” here! You must demonstrate that quality code can be produced and maintained. As a part of Core Services, you will produce high quality code and products, participate actively in code reviews, and apply appropriate due diligence when determining root causes to bugs.

The Sr Software Developer applies the principles of software engineering to the design, development, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of software and systems.

Day to Day Responsibilities For This Wizard:

• Performs software design work on new systems in current-generation languages and platforms, exercising individual judgment to implement appropriate design patterns and practices, and in alignment with architectural vision
• Able to develop robust, performant, and high-quality software solutions where transactions to a database are being employed, particularly in a highly-transactional live system
• Performs systems analysis, design, programming, maintenance, and time estimates for assigned complex software products
• Works with managers to evaluate and make feature, schedule, and resource trade-off decisions
• Provides reasonable estimates of time and materials required to complete vision and scope goals outlined by business and project management
• Writes logical code that is easily understandable with comments and documentation
• Performs due diligence and applies detailed-oriented thinking when implementing specifications and fixing bugs
• Adopts industry standard and team-specific coding practices, must follow internal SDLC procedures
• Performs code and architectural reviews
• Designs and implements unit tests
• Diagnoses and proactively proposes solutions for software issues across the system, and in particular within components they work with regularly
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people
• Positive, can-do attitude a must
• Initiative and self-starting attitude a must
• Ability to communicate effectively across a spectrum of business, creative, and technology personnel at all levels of the organization

AM I QUALIFIED?

Experience Creating and Casting these Spells:

• 6+ years working with C#, .NET Framework, and current-generation languages and platforms
• 6+ years of experience working with multi-threaded .NET assemblies
• 6+ years of object-oriented design experience
• Experience working with WCF and Web API
• Experience working with Visual Studio and other industry standard IDEs
• Experience working with industry standard source control systems
• Experience working with industry standard defect tracking systems
• Experience interacting with SQL Databases and writing stored procedure
• Commitment to industry standard code practices and literate programming style
• Experience with Cloud computing (AWS or Azure – Service Fabric a plus)
• Experience with T-SQL, SQL Server, and SQL Server Management Server. Terms like: instances, cross-database ownership chaining, clustered index, and searchable arguments should mean something to you

Knowledge, Abilities and Characteristics of the Ideal Wizard:

• Ability to lead and mentor other Software Developers
• Practice due diligence when consuming requirements, writing code, fixing bugs, and implementing tests
• Must work well with engineers, other development managers, project managers, producers, and build/system engineers
• Ability to help design functional (and even non-functional) requirements for applications
• Demonstrated ability to perform the standard “best practices” for development: adequate commenting, experience with common design patterns, able to use different SDLC processes, etc.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people
• Positive, can-do attitude a must
• Initiative and self-starting attitude a must

Education and Training:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer science or equivalent work experience

Travel Requirements

• 5%

Time Expected to Reach Full Performance Level in Position:

• 3 months
