Vice President, Global Franchise Strategy, Magic: The Gathering

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Global Play Lead of the Magic: The Gathering business, you will sit on the Magic leadership team, directly shaping enterprise strategy while leading a senior organization responsible for Franchise Strategy, Emerging Business, Global Events, and Digital Franchise Expressions.

 

The Vice President, Global Franchise Strategy will lead Magic: The Gathering into its next era as a fully integrated, cross-platform play and entertainment franchise. You will lead the long-range (3–5 year) global franchise vision and roadmap. You will also oversee one of the world’s most enduring fantasy IPs as it expands across multiple areas, including tabletop, digital, streaming, live experiences, publishing, and licensing.

 

With an entrepreneurial spirit, you will identify, develop and implement long-term strategic business plans that build franchise flywheel partnerships to core product and entertainment content, crafting an integrated ecosystem. You will architect and scale a fully integrated franchise ecosystem, aligning narrative IP, product strategy, platform expansion, and commercial partnerships into a unified global growth engine with measurable revenue impact.

 

The role focuses on strategies that will grow brand value, awareness, and open more doors to the fandom than ever before. The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience leading global, multi-platform franchise or IP portfolios within top-tier gaming, streaming, or entertainment organizations, with demonstrated success scaling culturally resonant brands.

 

A Day in the Life:

  • Architect a cohesive transmedia franchise strategy that seamlessly connects core gameplay, digital platforms, entertainment initiatives, strategic collaborations, and global fan experiences into a unified lifecycle that converts audiences into lifelong fans and players into our community.
  • Define Franchise Strategy: Insights-inspired, you will develop, lead and drive a multi-year global franchise roadmap with clear audience segmentation, investment priorities, and commercial KPIs aligned to enterprise growth objectives.
  • Craft the brand story: In partnership with Marketing, define our brand positioning, ensuring narrative cohesion and brand integrity across all expressions of the IP, influencing entertainment development, publishing, licensing, and digital product storytelling.
  • Expand the franchise footprintIdentify opportunities to grow and unlock new global growth vectors, including emerging platforms and media formats, positioning Magic at the center of contemporary fantasy and gaming culture.
  • Lead cross-functional teamwork: Inspire and partner closely with product strategy, product marketing, insights, communications, events, play, emerging business, entertainment, licensing, digital games teams and more to bring strategy to life. Operate as a senior enterprise leader, influencing cross-functional investment decisions and aligning a complex, matrixed organization against long-term franchise value creation.
  • Be the expert: Know our player segments and define how we are catering to and building affinity with existing and prospective players. Maintain deep fluency in global fandom ecosystems, live service dynamics, and competitive franchise benchmarks across gaming and entertainment.

 

What You Will Bring:

•    10+ years of experience leading global, multi-platform franchise or IP portfolios within top-tier gaming, streaming, or entertainment organizations, with demonstrated success scaling culturally resonant brands absolutely required.
•    Proven experience working with entertainment content and partners to develop and extend franchise flywheel programs
•    5+ years leading multi-disciplinary teams, including managing senior leaders 
•    Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment across functions to advance enterprise-wide franchise initiatives 
•    Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
•    Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a strong story-telling ability across both written and verbal communications.
•    Deep knowledge of Magic: The Gathering highly preferred.

The base salary range for this position is $232,600-$348,800. The hiring range will vary based on factors such as experience, skills, location and market conditions. Additionally, employees may be eligible for annual and long-term incentives as part of their overall compensation package.
